Blakedown installs “a world class facility” for Hockey Clubs in Oxfordshire





Blakedown Sport & Play have recently completed two resurface projects for Cherwell District Council, one at North Oxfordshire Academy, Banbury, and the other for Coopers School, Bicester.

Cherwell District Council has invested in the future of hockey and football in the area by funding the new replacement pitches. The Banbury pitch, at the North Oxfordshire Academy, was opened by Cherwell District Council Chairman, Cllr Mrs Diana Edwards along with England and GB hockey goal keeper James Fair who said “the pitch is of top quality standard, a world class facility.” England Hockey also brought the Euro Nations Trophy to display at the opening.

The council has invested over £325,000 in new playing surfaces, team shelters, storage areas and fencing at the schools, with both of the new pitches being a top quality "sand-dressed" surfaces, ideal for league standard hockey playing and also suitable for use by football and other sports clubs.
Cherwell District Council portfolio holder for environment, recreation and health, Councillor George Reynolds, said: "These new pitches will be a boon to Bicester and Banbury Hockey Clubs. The council continues to be committed to investing in the future of sports and leisure in Cherwell, with the district aim to be at the forefront of sports provision in the run up to the Olympics."
