The refurbishment saw the existing 8 lane track reconstructed to provide a high specification 6 lane sandwich system and associated field facilities
This exciting facility funded by a £1.2m investment by Enfield Council had been left to fall into disrepair but was saved two years ago after a public campaign.
Lord Coe, when he declared the track officially open said: “All my preparation for the 1984 Olympic Games (when he won gold in the 1500m) was in this borough and on this track. The track is better now than it is ever has been thanks to the upgrade by Blakedown Sport and Play”.
