Five Islands School on the Isles of Scilly was visited by the Queen and Prince Philip following a £13m re-build project, part of the project scope included two new multi use games areas which were completed by Blakedown Sport & Play in June.

The royal visit was the first since 1967 and the school situated on St Marys’ Island takes in pupils from all of the Isles of Scilly.

The first MUGA was constructed using a sand-dressed carpet and lined for hockey and tennis, the second is a polymeric lined for netball and basketball.

All build materials and construction machinery for the project were sourced from the mainland then shipped from Penzance to St. Marys Island. To ensure work was completed smoothly and efficiently Blakedown put 10-day shift patterns in place for all on-site staff working on the project which allowed the project to be completed in only 8 weeks, demonstrating again Blakedown’s flexibility and commitment in delivering first class facilities.
