Jim Gordon – the grandson of former Headmaster Archie Gordon was accompanied by his son and granddaughter to open the new state of the art 3G all weather training pitch at the Kirkstall Training Complex, for the Leeds Rugby Foundation.

The pitch built by Blakedown Sport & Play was constructed using a high spec 3rd generation 65mm pile height carpet designed specifically for rugby and was laid onto an engineered base. Lines were added for rugby and 7-a-side football for local team use, fencing around the new facility completed the project.

The ground, used for Training by Leeds Rhinos and Leeds Carnegie is also known as the Archie Gordon Sports Ground, Leeds Rugby Chief Executive – Gary Hetherington said “The pitch was originally dedicated to Archie Gordon’s memory back in 1956, his name will live on but now at a modern, state of the art ground”

Blakedown Sport & Play were awarded the project following a competitive tender process; the project which took several years to come to fruition is part of a 13 year transformation at the Kirkstall site, we are very proud to be part of such a historic development.
