    Warwickshire Projects Full Size ATP's

    Blakedown Sport & Play have completed construction of three full size artificial sports pitches, a scheme that was worth well over £1 million.

    Kineton School and Southam College both had a sand-filled multi use surface installed which are lined for football, hockey and 5-a-side, Queen Elizabeth School have a 3G carpet with rubber crumb infill lined for football and 5-a-side.

    All three pitches were installed with fencing and floodlights.

    The projects were run with the guidance of the Warwickshire County Council Framework with included Ashe Construction to project manage the three schemes.

  • Shelfield Academy

    Shelfield Academy 3G & Macadam MUGA's

    Blakedown Sport & Play have completed a full size 3G football pitch and 3 Macadam MUGA’s at Shelfield Academy.

    The 104 × 71m 3G pitch was constructed using Tiger Turf Football 60 carpet and was lined for football and three 5-a-side.

    The 3 macadam MUGA’s were lined for tennis & netball.

    The entire project was completed with new heavy duty twin bar fencing and floodlights.

  • William Brookes School, Shropshire

    William Brookes School, Shropshire Pitch and track facilities

    Blakedown Sport & Play have completed the sub-contract works in 3 phases of the William Brookes School development.

    Phase 1 of the project involved the construction of a 101.5m x 63m sand-filled pitch using an Edel LSR 24mm carpet, with fencing and a new 200m polymeric 6 lane running track with an 8 lane sprint straight.

    Phase 2 works saw the construction of a 75m x 35m macadam MUGA which was centrally divided by fencing to allow for 2 courts, both were lined for tennis & netball & one for basketball, this allows for maximum usage of the courts during lessons. Works started in November 2010 & were completed in February 2011.

    A new natural rugby pitch was started in April 2011 will be ready for use in approximately September 2012 and completes the work for Phase 3

  • Thomas Becket Catholic School

    Thomas Becket Catholic School 3G pitch and long jumps

    Funded by Northampton County Council, the work consisted of constructing a new 106m x 71m 3rd generation pitch with fencing and floodlights; re-grading and seeding an existing 25,000 sq m area of natural athletics tracks and full-size rugby pitch, and creating two 50m polymeric long jump runs with sand-filled landing pit.

    Site Manager for the school, Paul Wooten, said: “The pitch is excellent and the work was completed with the minimum of disruption to staff and pupils, which particularly impressed our exams officer.”

  • Abbey Grounds, Abingdon

    Abbey Grounds, Abingdon Garden refurbishment

    Refurbishment of Victorian gardens carried out on the site of a Scheduled Ancient Monument.

    The works comprised the construction of new paths and refurbishment of existing ones, which were surfaced with a Coxwell self-binding gravel. Metal gates and railings were constructed/refurbished and new seats and litter bins installed. Soft landscaping comprised topsoiling and tree and shrub planting. The old abbey foundations were marked by the laying of Yorkstone setts. All works that required excavation were supervised by an archaeologist.

  • Bedford Sports & Hockey Club

    Bedford Sports & Hockey Club Hockey pitches

    Extension and resurfacing of the two existing pitches to make two full-size hockey pitches with a sand-dressed artificial carpet to FIH-approved standards. The facility was completed with new weldmesh fencing and upgrading of the floodlights.

    The client, Martin McLeod, said: “Excellent — floodlights fantastic, pitch excellent, the players say it’s very soft to run on. Overall everyone is very, very impressed.”

  • Cambridge Regional College

    Cambridge Regional College Pitches

    Blakedown recently completed a project for Marriott Construction at Cambridge Regional College.

    The project was a new-build 935m2 sand-filled pitch with two recesses. The carpet used was an Edel PP 24mm, which was installed on top of a 15mm shockpad. Four floodlighting columns were also installed along with 3m-high perimeter fencing.

  • Cherwell District Council, Oxfordshire

    Cherwell District Council, Oxfordshire Resurface projects

    Blakedown Sport & Play recently completed two resurface projects for Cherwell District Council.

    England and GB hockey goalkeeper James Fair, who opened the facilities said “the pitch is of top-quality standard, a world-class facility.”

    The council has invested in new playing surfaces, team shelters, storage areas and fencing at the schools, with both of the new pitches being top-quality, “sand-dressed” surfaces, ideal for league standard hockey playing and also suitable for use by football and other sports clubs.

    Goals Soccer Star City, Birmingham Football pitches

    Blakedown Sport & Play completed a very unique project at Star City, Birmingham for the football five-a-side company, Goals Soccer Centre. 



    This unique venture by Goals required Blakedown to construct 10 five-a-side, 3rd generation pitches on to the top of a multi-storey car park, making this the only sports facility in the UK to utilise such a location.

  • Hereford Leisure Centre

    Hereford Leisure Centre Resurfacing of sports pitch

    Herefordshire Council employed Blakedown Sport & Play to resurface their existing 95.5m x 67m sports pitch with FIH-approved Edel Elite LSR/NDR sand-dressed carpet, with minor repair works to the shockpad. Line markings for hockey and three five-a-side pitches were marked out, and new 4m perimeter fencing was installed around the pitch with double weldmesh rebounds.

    The project was completed with a new UKA-standard throwing cage for hammer and discus.

  • Humberstone Skatepark, Leicester

    Humberstone Skatepark, Leicester Skatepark

    A new skatepark at Humberstone Park.

    This skatepark contract consisted of installing five different sections to ensure smooth riding throughout the park for all ability levels.

    Some of the features constructed included:

    1.2m high Flat Ramp, 1.2m high Curved Ramp, 1.2m deep half Mini Bowl, 0.6m high Flat Ramp, 1.2m high Midi Flat Ramp, 0.6m Driveway Ramp with 0.3m high Grindbox, 0.9m high corner Funbox and 2.5m long x 0.3m high metal Grind Rail.

    This modern skatepark was built using an in-situ, reinforced concrete for a smooth finished surface and coloured bitmac surface for ‘Run Out’ areas. The project was completed with a black bitmac surrounding footpaths.

  • Monkmoor Campus, Shrewsbury

    Monkmoor Campus, Shrewsbury MUGA (Multi-Use Games Area)

    Officially opened by HRH Earl of Wessex, Blakedown Sport & Play were employed by Moss Construction to install a 61 × 41.7m 3rd generation MUGA, using a 60mm Edel Xcell monofilament carpet. The pitch was enclosed with 3m-high twin-bar fencing rising to 5m behind the goal areas. The pitch was completed with all associated sports equipment.

    Redhill School, Wolverhampton Football pitch

    Blakedown Sport and Play constructed a full-size artificial, 3rd generation football pitch. The pitch, which is on a dynamic base with a pre-formed shockpad, has a full spec floodlighting system and is surrounded by a 3m-high weldmesh fence with rebound boards.

    Stratford Football Club Football pitch

    A 3rd generation pitch was constructed, using a Tiger Turf Football 50 carpet installed onto a dynamic base. The full size pitch was enclosed using 3m-high weldmesh fencing and six 180 lux floodlights. The pitch was completed with 11-a-side and five-a-side markings.

    Blakedown Sport & Play scored a very high average of 2 on the customer satisfaction questionnaire, with Stratford Town FC specifying that they would use us again.

    Tipton Sports Academy, West Midlands Resurface project

    The facility had two existing tennis courts, which were converted into two synthetic, five-a-side pitches with removable divide fencing. The pitches had a Brock shockpad installed underneath the artificial grass carpet.

    The project was completed with perimeter fencing.

    Tudor Grange Leisure Centre, Solihull Resurface project

    A resurface project at Tudor Grange Leisure Centre, Blossomfield Road, Solihull, West Midlands.

    The 67.7 × 107.9m pitch was resurfaced with an Edel 50mm 3rd generation Soccer Standard carpet and new shockpad. The project was completed with works to the footpaths as well as replacement kickboards.
