
Brunswick Estate Entrances Bespoke Works
Following extensive rejuvenation works to Brunswick Estate, Homes for Islington asked Blakedown Landscapes to construct new bespoke entrance canopies with stainless steel art features.
In addition to the new canopies Blakedown completed new resin bound paving to the tower block entrances.

Churchill Homes Soft Landscaping
Blakedown Landscapes have recently completed four soft landscaping projects for Churchill Homes.
The schemes in Rickmansworth, Princes Risborough, Wallington and Worthing involved the planting of instant hedging, mature trees and specimen shrubs. Mulching, topsoiling and turfing completed the project scope.
Churchill Homes are a privately owned national company who specialise in purpose built retirement developments, several more projects are due to be started in the coming months.

Horniman Museum Landscaping
Historic restoration works by Blakedown Landscapes are now well underway at the 19th Century Horniman Museum in Forest Gate, London.
Part of the project scope is to relay the existing crazy paving back to its precise pattern within the sunken garden. Detailed photographs were taken of the layout and the slabs were left with the moss and lichen that has grown over the years so as to exactly recreate the pavement before it was lifted.
The works include a new reflection pool, new pathways, roads, musical play equipment, animal shelters, railings, disabled access ramps, tree planting, resin surfacing, and all whilst still being open to the general public.
The overall plan for the gardens is to create new outdoor spaces for learning, with the project concentrating on the refurbishment of; The Bandstand Terrace, The Animal Enclosure, The Sunken Garden & New World Food Garden.
Blakedown commenced works on site back in early February and are currently working to schedule for completion December 2011.

Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens Soft & Hard Landscaping
Blakedown landscapes have completed re-development works to the entrance of Vauxhall Pleasure Gardens on behalf of Lambeth Council.
The project scope was to regenerate a tired area into somewhere clean and vibrant for residents and visitors. Prior to Blakedown starting two 16 metre concrete columns were built as a new feature to Vauxhalls skyline.
Demolition of the existing surfaces was followed by the construction of bespoke concrete walls with LED under lighting. New granite setts were laid with a feature pedestrian path, a new tarmac path was also constructed leading up to the granite features. The scheme was finished with feature shrubs and mature tree planting.

Wlliam Patten School Play Area
William Patten School in North London employed Blakedown Landscapes to transform their two play areas into new bespoke play areas.
All the works had to be carried out during the school holidays which was successfully achieved.
The works included a bespoke timber bridge, soft play areas with wave effect ,new synthetic grass ball court area and handmade timber planters. Mature trees were planted and the project was completed with the resurfacing of the playground.

Uxbridge College Multi Use Games Areas
Blakedown Sport & Play Ltd were employed to build two new multi use games areas at Uxbridge College.
The first was a 32m x 25m blue polymeric MUGA, lined for Tennis, Basketball & Netball.
The second a 3G surface using Tiger Turf Football synthetic carpet is lined for 5-a-side football.
Both areas were completed with surrounding and dividing fence.

Brockwell Park Gardens Water Play Area
Following a successful tender process by Lambeth Council Blakedown Landscapes (SE) were appointed as landscape contractors for the first phase of the major re-development project at Brockwell Park Gardens in South East London.
Formerly a redundant paddling pool Blakedown transformed the space into a new wet play area featuring a paddling pool, rock pools, a stream and a sand pit which provide a fantastic new place for children and their families to play in one of south London’s best loved parks. Other works included the construction of a boardwalk, feature rock cascade, tree planting, turfing and bespoke timber planters.
Having recently opened to the public Sue Bowers, Head of the Heritage Lottery Fund in London, said:
“It’s great news that this new and exciting part of the wider Brockwell Park redevelopment project has now been completed. It will be a great asset to this much-loved park and I’m sure it will be well used by local children and encourage them and their families to come in and enjoy everything this precious green space has to offer.”The project was part funded by Heritage Lottery fund and is part of a larger redevelopment of the park.

Anerley Vale Soft & Hard landscaping
Blakedown landscapes have completed a large urban regeneration project on behalf of Affinity Sutton.
The project for the Anerley Vale Estate in South East London had to be phased so as to still give residents full use of facilities and access to and from the estate by allowing maximum usage of the footpaths and car park whilst construction work took place safely and quietly.
The works consisted of the demolition of the existing surfaces around the estate, new tarmac footpaths, clay pavior paths, brick retaining walls, metal railings and new metal entrance features into the grounds.
New play areas with equipment were constrcuted including a fenced multi-use games area with basketball boards and hoops. The works were finalised with the creation of new shrub beds, tree planting and turfing to complete the environment improvement works.

Isleworth & Syon School 3G & Natural Pitch plus Cricket Wickets
A new full size 3G pitch lined for rugby, football & 5-a-side using Edel Touchdown 60mm carpet onto a dynamic base has been completed by Blakedown at Isleworth & Syon School.
Blakedown have also laid a new full size natural grass pitch which once taken will be lined and used for football, we are also maintaining this pitch for the school for a duration of 12 months.

Charters, Ascot Soft Landscaping
Blakedown Landscapes have completed soft landscaping works at the prestigious development Charters in Ascot, Berkshire.
This high profile estate also closely neighbouring Royal Windsor was once a 1920’s Art Deco Grade II listed building, the new landscape therefore had to be in keeping. New shrub beds were created along with extensive tree and shrub planting across the estate.
Over 200 metres of instant hedging was planted ranging from 1.2m high up to 1.8 high, along the hedging new automatic drip line irrigation was also installed.Finally the construction of a bespoke metal screen enclosing two of the new properties was installed; the metal trellis fixings were designed by Blakedown with the unique trellis designed by Enplan Architects. Further to this over 40 bespoke planters were built and planted giving a privacy screen to the communal areas.
The works also include 12 months maintenance.

Hainault Cemetery Soft landscaping
Blakedown Landscapes recently completed Phase 2 works to the Gardens of Peace Cemetery in Hainault, Essex following a successful tender process. Blakedown had previously constructed phase 1 back in 2002 for the Gardens of Peace Trust.
Works to the 15,000sqm site included extensive tree clearance, ground re-modelling, land drainage and seeding. Along with new access roads a car park was also constructed, further works included a new mains water supply, boundary fencing and lighting.
The site had a large element of soft landscaping including planting over 250 mature trees across the site. The sensitive works were carried out whilst the cemetery remained open.
Additional works included landscaping to the Hall of Remembrance area which included bespoke hardwood planters planted with mature lime trees from an orchard in Italy, new paving, timber decking and perimeter drainage completed the area.
Blakedown have also been employed to maintain the site for a period of 12 months.

Deptford Park Play Area
Following a successful tender for the London Borough of Lewisham Blakedown Landscapes have completed extensive refurbishment works to the out dated play area at Deptford Park in South East London.
Part of the project involved the renovation of the existing swings, climbing frame and metal fencing, everything was stripped back and repainted. New play equipment including a climbing wall, table tennis table, wooden climbing structure and basket ball post and hoop were also installed.
The landscape was excavated and reshaped into a large mound using material from the site, this allowed for a new 12 metre play tunnel and large slide to be installed. New safety surfacing was laid beneath all new and existing play equipment.
New trees and shrubs, new wooden picnic benches, litter bins and general public seating completed the scheme.
Blakedown have also been employed by the authority to maintain the new play area for a period of 12 months.

Paddington Road Recreation Ground Multi Use Games area & External Gym
Blakedown have constructed a new 25m x 16m multi use games area for Westminster City Council.
The tarmac surface was acrylic coated in green and lined for Basketball, Mini Tennis, Football and Volleyball.
A new external gym area with equipment was also constructed on a tarmac surface with a two tone green acrylic coated finish.
Fencing with goal recesses, basketball boards and hoops and 4 corner floodlights completed the project.

Barnes Junior School MUGA
Blakedown were employed to reconstruct and extend the school play ground by The London Borough of Richmond Upon Thames.
A new drainage systems was installed along with a soakaway.

Gordon's School Multi Use Games Area
Gordon’s School in Surrey chose Blakedown Sport & Play to construct a brand new synthetic multi use pitch and to resurface their two macadam tennis courts.
The school, close to our Blakedown Landscapes offices in Surrey wanted a fenced off, full sized sand-filled pitch suitable for football, hockey & tennis. The two existing macadam courts were resurfaced and acrylic coated with lines for tennis and netball. A ducting infrastructure has been put in place to allow floodlighting to be installed around the synthetic pitch at a later date.

Eagle House School Sand-Dressed & Macadam re-spray
Blakedown have completed works at Eagle House School, a prep school for Wellington College where Blakedown installed a full sized sand filled ATP with a block of tarmac tennis courts.
The existing tarmac area of 90 × 55m was allocated to be the new sports surface at Eagle House, however the school tasked Blakedown to provide a surface that could be used for sport activities but also an over flow car park for large events that are held at the school, so a half and half solution was devised to suit the schools needs, half of the area is a sand dressed surface whilst the remaining tarmac was re-sprayed with a green acrylic coationg and then lined for hockey, tennis and netball, new 3m weldmesh fencing was also installed.

Brittons School, Essex Hockey and football pitch
Installation of a full-size, sand-filled pitch, lined for hockey and football, with recess goals for 11-a-side football and five-a-side. Also installed were floodlights and pitch nets, both on recess for security. This pitch was completed with 4m-high fencing and kickboards, which were covered in synthetic carpet to combat noise issues.
Attached to one side of the pitch, Blakedown installed a carpeted cricket wicket base, and at the bottom a floodlit, 3rd generation, five-a-side pitch with recess goals.

Brunel University, Middlesex Sports pitches
Construction of two full-size synthetic sports surfaces, one catering for the growing demand in football with the new, advanced, 3rd generation artificial surface with sand and rubber crumb infill; the second, a sand-dressed artificial surface for hockey. Both pitches are floodlit, fenced and fully equipped with team shelters, dividing nets and maintenance equipment. Six tennis courts were surfaced using porous macadam with an acrylic coating with 3m-high fencing.
The construction included 15,000m3 of material being carted to tip and the installation of a drainage system that incorporated a 700m3 attenuation tank. Access roads, car parks, paved footways and completion of the complementary landscaping were also part of Blakedown’s contract, as well as the provision of the field sport facilities and equipment store.

Brunel University, Uxbridge Hard landscaping
Upgrading of the Central Spine paving, which had been in place since 1966, as part of the University’s £250m renovation programme.
Works involved lifting the existing concrete flag paving and removing off site, then supplying and laying 3500m2 of Marshall’s “La Linea” paving. New drainage works to both foul and surface water were installed. Ducting for new IT services was installed, along with associated draw pits and ornamental lighting. New Marshalls street furniture was fitted along the Central Spine works.

To link an existing car park and pedestrianised walkway that were previously separated by a wall. The wall was demolished, the car park reduced in size and the pedestrian area expanded. Creation of a courtyard garden on an existing open site
The old site was mainly down to hard surface with a few soft landscaped areas. These were removed and the area was landscaped to form a seating area using concrete benches on a newly paved section. The existing tree was retained as the focal point of a circular, resin-bound, paved area, with a stone wall to one side forming seating. A further raised, paved area was constructed, with steps and ramp access, from which leads a resin-bound, paved path to the entrance gates. The gardens were soft-landscaped and a new fence erected to enclose the gardens.

Crawley Skatepark Skatepark
A modern skatepark for Crawley Borough Council.
The 1200m2 park consists of numerous in-situ concrete bowls, ranging from 6-8ft in depth, and a 3.3m-high cave shell incorporating a pump hump. The street area includes various transitions of grind rails, fun boxes, pyramids, ledges, driveways, tits, flat banks and BMX jumps.
This state-of-the-art park was completed with tarmac access path and roads, timber-fence railing and seating and floodlights.
The park has had rave reviews from the riders, saying: “The ride in the park is smooth and quick, there are plenty of lines in both the bowl and the street area. All in all it is a great park and we recommend a visit.”

Evelina Children’s Hospital, London SE1 Hard and soft landscaping
External works, predominantly hard landscaping with some soft landscaping, as part of the development of the children’s hospital at St Thomas’.
The existing access road was removed, new drainage installed and bespoke paving laid to form the new road and pedestrian areas. Also installed were new concrete planters, street lighting and street furniture, including bollards, seating and cycle racks. A new access ramp was constructed with a glass canopy and stainless-steel hand-rails. In addition, a new fabric canopy was built, linking the Evelina Hospital to the old St Thomas’ Hospital, along with a granite-set walkway. The soft landscaping involved planting an avenue of Carpinus betulus trees.

Installation of 10 3rd generation five-a-side pitches at the new Goals Soccer Centre, in Reading.
This was a fairly unique project for a Goals Centre as, aside from the 10 five-a-side pitches, Blakedown also installed a 3rd generation seven-a-side pitch using a 60mm carpet for rugby use, a sand-dressed seven-a-side pitch using a 23mm carpet so football can be played on the surface as well as hockey, numerous macadam courts for tennis and netball, and a natural pitch.

Linford Christie Outdoor Sports Centre, London Multi-sports
Chelsea FC star players John Terry and Shaun Wright-Phillips and England rugby World Cup hero Will Greenwood officially opened the sports facility that Blakedown Sport & Play constructed at the Linford Christie stadium.
This £600,000 facility, jointly funded by Barclays Spaces for Sports scheme and the Football Foundation, with backing from Hammersmith & Fulham Council, comprised a full-size, sand-filled, artificial sports pitch and four five-a-side pitches, all complete with fencing and floodlighting.

Hard landscaping works to Malet Place
The existing surface was broken up and removed, then replaced with Yorkstone setts, tarmacadam, resin-bounded and resin-bonded gravel and black granite. Manhole covers were replaced and reset to new levels. A stainless-steel green wall was provided. Light tape, LED and cold cathode lighting was installed in various locations throughout.

Reconstruction of the existing pitch at The Oratory School into a sand-filled MUGA.

White Hart Lane, London Sports pitches
Full reconstruction works on an existing all-weather sports pitch to provide a new 6,800m2, 3rd generation, sand- and rubber-based football pitch. The facility has been designed to meet the FIFA-quality standards for synthetic pitches. It was completed with new fencing and floodlighting systems.
It was intended that the new pitch would form the base for Tottenham Hotspur FC’s community football projects.
In conjunction with the football facility, Blakedown also constructed four acrylic-coated tennis courts, again fully fenced and floodlit. The courts were to ITA standards and included a mini-tennis area.

Woodbridge High School, Essex Football training facility
Construction of a new, 3rd generation football training facility for Woodbridge High School.
The pitch was surfaced using a Desso Challenge Pro 60 carpet with inlaid lines for football. Galvanised green powder-coated twin-bar fencing was installed with three single gates and one double, as well as four floodlighting columns. The project was completed with new footpaths.

Creation of a new water play area, forming part of the Riverside Recreation Ground at Dukes Meadow.
The project consisted of minor demolition works and excavation of spoil, which was set aside for forming new mounds after the existing ground was contoured. Existing concrete sub-structures were broken out and removed from site, a new kiosk was constructed, as well as a plant room for the new play pool. The play pool was finished with a mosaic tile surface and a sand pit was constructed, along with new paving, retaining walls and fencing. Associated soft landscaping was also carried out and new site furniture installed.

Development of a brownfield site, including creating five natural football pitches.
The site used to be the Chowdary County Infant and Junior Schools, which was damaged by a fire then later demolished. The works consisted of breaking out the old footings and removing from site, breaking up the concrete slabs, crushing them and re-using them in the construction of the swales. An old security fence was removed and a new playing field constructed, comprising five new, full-size, natural football pitches. Associated land drainage works were carried out and floodlighting installed. Tree and shrub planting was carried out in various locations around the school site.
