
Essa Academy 3G & Tarmac MUGA
Blakedown Sport & Play have constructed a full size 3rd Generation all weather pitch suitable for football and hockey also including a tarmac MUGA at The Essa Academy; part of a large multi-million new build project.
An Edel FIH approved carpet was the surface laid, with permanent lines installed for football, hockey and 5-a-side.
The 8 court, open graded tarmac multi-use games area was constructed for tennis & netball.
5m high fencing and an 8 column 200 lux floodlight system completed the project.

Warwickshire Projects Full Size ATP's
Blakedown Sport & Play have completed construction of three full size artificial sports pitches, a scheme that was worth well over £1 million.
Kineton School and Southam College both had a sand-filled multi use surface installed which are lined for football, hockey and 5-a-side, Queen Elizabeth School have a 3G carpet with rubber crumb infill lined for football and 5-a-side.
All three pitches were installed with fencing and floodlights.
The projects were run with the guidance of the Warwickshire County Council Framework with included Ashe Construction to project manage the three schemes.

Priestley College Hockey pitch
To install a sand-dressed hockey pitch also suitable for a range of other sports.
The state-of-the-art pitch, which is available to both students studying sport academically and to select outside organisations, earned Blakedown 10 out of 10 on a customer satisfaction questionnaire. The client appreciated Blakedown’s commitment to quality and value for money.

Bedford Sports & Hockey Club Hockey pitches
Extension and resurfacing of the two existing pitches to make two full-size hockey pitches with a sand-dressed artificial carpet to FIH-approved standards. The facility was completed with new weldmesh fencing and upgrading of the floodlights.
The client, Martin McLeod, said: “Excellent — floodlights fantastic, pitch excellent, the players say it’s very soft to run on. Overall everyone is very, very impressed.”

Brunel University, Middlesex Sports pitches
Construction of two full-size synthetic sports surfaces, one catering for the growing demand in football with the new, advanced, 3rd generation artificial surface with sand and rubber crumb infill; the second, a sand-dressed artificial surface for hockey. Both pitches are floodlit, fenced and fully equipped with team shelters, dividing nets and maintenance equipment. Six tennis courts were surfaced using porous macadam with an acrylic coating with 3m-high fencing.
The construction included 15,000m3 of material being carted to tip and the installation of a drainage system that incorporated a 700m3 attenuation tank. Access roads, car parks, paved footways and completion of the complementary landscaping were also part of Blakedown’s contract, as well as the provision of the field sport facilities and equipment store.

Cherwell District Council, Oxfordshire Resurface projects
Blakedown Sport & Play recently completed two resurface projects for Cherwell District Council.
England and GB hockey goalkeeper James Fair, who opened the facilities said “the pitch is of top-quality standard, a world-class facility.”
The council has invested in new playing surfaces, team shelters, storage areas and fencing at the schools, with both of the new pitches being top-quality, “sand-dressed” surfaces, ideal for league standard hockey playing and also suitable for use by football and other sports clubs.

Dauntsey’s School Hockey pitch
Blakedown installed a new full size FIH hockey pitch, resurface their existing sand-filled full size pitch both complete with fencing and floodlighting as well as undertaking a large landscaping and natural pitch scheme across the campus.

Dragon School, Oxford Hockey and tennis facilities
Construction of one full-size and one 88m x 38m Edel LSR/NDR sand-dressed synthetic pitch used for hockey and recreational tennis. Both pitches have 3m and 5m surrounding weldmesh fencing, rebound boards and are completed with provision for a 400lux floodlighting system.
Access roads, walkways, paths, timber storage hut, groundsman’s equipment store and changing room facilities completed the project.

Hereford Leisure Centre Resurfacing of sports pitch
Herefordshire Council employed Blakedown Sport & Play to resurface their existing 95.5m x 67m sports pitch with FIH-approved Edel Elite LSR/NDR sand-dressed carpet, with minor repair works to the shockpad. Line markings for hockey and three five-a-side pitches were marked out, and new 4m perimeter fencing was installed around the pitch with double weldmesh rebounds.
The project was completed with a new UKA-standard throwing cage for hammer and discus.

Monkton Combe School, Bath Sports pitch
Blakedown Sport & Play undertook the design and build works at Monkton Combe School to replace the existing full-size sand-filled artificial sports pitch which including a retaining wall, new drainage, fencing, floodlights, access path and associated landscaping.

The Ridings High School, Bristol Football/hockey pitch
Construction of a new, full-size, synthetic pitch at The Riding School in Bristol.
This exciting new Edel LSR/NDR sand-dressed sports pitch is primarily used for hockey and football, and includes an 8-column static floodlighting system complete with 50/50 weldmesh 3m-high perimeter fencing.
The project incorporated a 1000m2 new tarmac bus park facility which was also marked for netball courts to be used during school hours, landscaping around the facility, including using the 1500m3 top soil from the site to make mounds for the spectators to use, building a block paving path around the sports pitch and rejuvenating the boundary wall to the school.

Timperley Hockey Club, Cheshire Upgrade of pitch facility
Complete upgrade of the existing double-pitch facility. This included:
Pitch 1: Extension of pitch dimensions to meet FIH (International Hockey Federation) requirements and a full re-construction incorporating new drainage, tarmacadam, shockpad, fencing and floodlighting. The surface FIH-approved sand-dressed synthetic surface is finished with a unique blue run-off surround.
Pitch 2: The existing carpet was removed, the prefabricated shockpad re-laid to include topping, and all seams were glued. The new pitch was a sand-filled LSR synthetic surface for multi use sports.
