Blakedown Sport and Play have recently been involved with three high profile hockey clubs who in order to stay at the top of their game have needed to improve their sports facilities with the installation of new pitches. All three hockey clubs have chosen a high spec sand-dressed synthetic surface which provides outstanding playing characteristics allowing high ball speed and excellent durability, as well as providing a suitable pitch for a variety of other sports.
Each unique project has been installed with Edel LSR/NDR synthetic surfaces which are tested and approved to the FIH high standards.

Timperley Hockey Club

Timperley requested a complete upgrade of their existing double pitch facility including the extension of one to meet the FIH requirements. This 15 week, ?380,000 full reconstruction incorporated a new drainage system, tarmacadam, new fencing and floodlighting. The FIH approved sand-dressed synthetic surface has been laid over a high grade shockpad, and the entire pitch has been surrounded by a unique blue run-off. The second pitch involved removal and then resurfacing with a synthetic sand-filled LSR surface on top of a prefabricated shockpad.

Bedford Sports & Hockey Club

This ?280,000 project involved the extension and resurfacing of two existing pitches to make them into full size hockey pitches. It took eight weeks to complete the sand-dressed pitches to FIH approval, including the weldmesh fencing and the upgrade of the floodlights. Bedford Sports & Hockey Club.s Martin McLeod quotes, "Excellent - the floodlights are fantastic, the pitch is excellent, the players say its very soft to run on. Overall, everyone is very impressed."

Dereham Hockey Club

Dereham Hockey Club spent ?185,000 for Blakedown Sport and Play to extend their existing pitch by 660 square metres, and then resurface it with a sand-dressed synthetic surface which was in turn laid on a high grade rubber insitu shockpad. The pitch, again approved by the FIH, took 9 weeks to complete with John Carrick saying, "We have received many favourable comments from our members and visitors on the quality and comfort of the pitch surface."
