Blakedown tracks hosts Olympian Style games



The 124th Wenlock Olympian Games hosted by William Brookes School had a special visitor for the opening of the new facility - Wenlock (named in honour of the towns’ Olympic history) the official mascot for the London 2012 Olympic Games. The event also attracted former 5,000m world champion David Moorcroft.

Over 350 children took part, as well as the usual track events long jump, discus, shot put, high jump, and javelin were also enjoyed.

A new 200m 6 lane porous polymeric running track with an 8 lane 100m straight was constructed, also included was a new high jump area and a long and triple jump area and a sand filled ATP with fencing.
Further works are due to start in October 2010 with a new MUGA, and a new natural rugby pitch due to be started in February 2011 will complete the works.
