Blakedown Appointed as Principal Contractor for the Clore Garden at Tate Britain
Blakedown Landscapes has been appointed as principal contractor for the delivery of the new Clore Garden at Tate Britain.
The project will transform the existing landscaped frontage on Millbank, changing how visitors approach and experience the gallery. Designed by Tom Stuart-Smith in partnership with the Royal Horticultural Society, the scheme brings together landscape, art and community within a new public garden setting.
The scheme incorporates a new pond and bespoke water feature, accessible pathways and extensive horticultural planting including feature trees. The planting palette has been developed to respond to central London's changing climate conditions, with species selected to provide structure, resilience and seasonal variation throughout the year.
The project prioritises the retention, re-use and local sourcing of materials, supporting a more sustainable approach to construction.
Chris Wellbelove, Managing Director, Blakedown Landscapes said: "This is a significant project for us, with a level of complexity that matches the ambition of the design. It brings together detailed landscape construction, specialist features and high-quality horticultural delivery within a constrained site. We are extremely proud to be working with Tate Britain, Tom Stuart-Smith and the wider team to deliver the project."
The Clore Garden is scheduled to open to the public in 2027.
