Blakedown Appointed to Refurbish Bramcote Park North
Blakedown Landscapes has been appointed as principal contractor by Southwark Council for the refurbishment of the north side of Bramcote Park in South Bermondsey. The project is being delivered to a design led by Assemble, with landscape architecture by Local Works Studio, and will create a more welcoming, accessible and well used green space for the local community.
Blakedown’s works will include grading to form new contours, a planted swale running along the western side of the park, and a low mound with terraced steps. Upgraded play equipment, new outdoor seating and park furniture, and a new games area will also form part of the works. Soft landscaping will comprise low maintenance planting dotted with orchard trees and integrated play features.
The design has been informed through an extensive programme of community engagement and consultation over the past two years. This process identified four key objectives for the park: establishing Bramcote Park as a neighbourhood front garden, creating space for play and activity, enriching biodiversity and improving access to landscape, nature and growing, and building long term care and maintenance into the scheme from the outset.
A core principle of the project is the reuse of materials from within the park. Through this circular and localised approach to materials, the project will reduce the carbon footprint of the refurbishment, minimise HGV movements, reduce waste, and contribute to the local economy.
Councillor Helen Dennis, Cabinet Member for New Homes and Sustainable Development, said: “We’re delighted that work is finally starting on Bramcote Park North. Residents have been waiting patiently for improvements, and we know how important this green space is to the community. Once complete, the park will be fully managed by Southwark’s Parks team. We look forward to welcoming residents to celebrate the transformation.”
Chris Wellbelove, Director, Blakedown Landscapes, said: “We are delighted to have been appointed to deliver the refurbishment of Bramcote Park North. The project combines new landscape features, play and community space, alongside a strong focus on reusing materials from within the park to create a greener and more welcoming place for local residents.”
