Queen Elizabeth II Garden Shortlisted for Pro Landscaper Sustainability & Biodiversity Award

The Queen Elizabeth II Garden in The Regent’s Park has been shortlisted for the Pro Landscaper Sustainability & Biodiversity Awards 2026, in the Commercial Build Project over £500k category.

The two-acre garden transformed a redundant former Royal Parks plant nursery into a climate-resilient public garden commemorating the life and legacy of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Sustainability was fundamental throughout the project. Circular economy principles, innovative growing media, extensive material reuse and delivery guided by the BREEAM Infrastructure framework contributed to significant and measurable environmental outcomes.

The completed garden achieved a 184% Biodiversity Net Gain, an 80% reduction in embodied carbon against typical practice and 99.98% diversion of construction waste from landfill, as well as achieving BREEAM Infrastructure Excellent.

The project also demonstrates how sustainable construction and horticultural delivery can work together. Crushed concrete was reused within an innovative low-fertility growing medium, while site-won materials were retained and reused to create meadow mounding and landforms supporting a diverse range of planting and habitats.

Delivered collaboratively with The Royal Parks, HTA Design and the wider project team, the garden combines complex landscape construction and horticulture with ambitious sustainability and biodiversity objectives.
