Community Involvement at Eagle Brewery Wharf
Just before Christmas, Blakedown Landscapes welcomed local schoolchildren to Eagle Brewery Wharf for a bulb planting day, as part of the riverside transformation delivered for the Royal Borough of Kingston upon Thames.
Working in small groups, the children took part in a simple, practical introduction to bulb planting, learning how to place bulbs correctly and at the right depth. Tools and materials were provided by the project team, with the planting forming part of the wider landscape works now in place across the site. The bulbs will emerge in spring, adding seasonal interest and contributing to the long-term character of the public space.
The planting day took place within the newly delivered public realm at Eagle Brewery Wharf, which includes new planting, play features, seating and improved riverside spaces shaped through community consultation. The activity offered an opportunity for local young people to be involved in a space they will continue to use, reinforcing the project’s focus on shared ownership and everyday use.
Community engagement has been an important part of the project, with the design intent responding to ideas from local residents, businesses and community groups.
