Mediterranean Garden Wins Principal Award

Blakedown Landscapes is proud to announce that the Mediterranean Garden at National Trust Beningbrough Hall has received the Principal Award for Hard Landscaping Construction (non-domestic, under £500k) at the 2025 BALI National Landscape Awards.

This award recognises the exceptional skill, precision and care demonstrated throughout the delivery of this technically demanding scheme. Our thanks go to the National Trust and Andy Sturgeon and his design team for leading such an inspiring scheme, and to our own Blakedown team for delivering the hard landscaping with care and precision.

The judges praised the “careful selection and quality of hard landscaping materials and workmanship evident throughout” and commended the project team for delivering a complex garden within a sensitive historic setting while managing logistical challenges including protected woodland access, severe weather and archaeological constraints.

The Mediterranean Garden forms part of the long-term transformation of Beningbrough’s grounds. The new landscape is characterised by undulating levels, dry stone walls in locally sourced York stone, Breedon gravel paths, bespoke water features and carefully positioned feature stones. Together these elements create structure, resilience and accessibility while creating a climate resilient and distinctive garden that will continue to evolve and be enjoyed for years to come.

We are delighted to see the project recognised at the highest level and extend our congratulations to everyone involved in bringing this remarkable scheme to life.
