Victoria Park Play Area Officially Opens

Blakedown Landscapes is proud to have worked alongside Mid Sussex District Council and Allen Scott Landscape Architecture in delivering the new Victoria Park play area, which has now officially opened to the public.

The new play area forms part of the wider Victoria Park Masterplan, a long-term programme of improvements to Victoria Park. The project has created an inclusive, accessible play space for children of all ages and abilities, with new play equipment, accessible pathways, seating and landscaping.

One of the more technically demanding aspects of the project was the Contractor Designed Portion (CDP) accessible play deck. Supported on concrete foundations, the structure was assembled on site, with each section carefully levelled and packed to create a level, accessible play platform across the site's changing contours.

Together, these improvements strengthen connections through the park, improve accessibility and create more opportunities for people of all ages to enjoy Victoria Park.

Councillor Chris Hobbs, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Customer Services at Mid Sussex District Council, said: "This project is part of the Council's wider investment in parks and open spaces across Mid Sussex, ensuring our communities have access to high-quality places to play, exercise, and spend time outdoors. Through the Victoria Park Masterplan, residents told us they wanted better play facilities, improved accessibility and a more welcoming environment for families. Working closely with our project partners, Allen Scott Landscape Architecture and Blakedown Landscapes, we have brought those aspirations to life."

Further improvements to the park entrance and access will continue as work on the wider Victoria Park Masterplan progresses.
