Queen Elizabeth II Garden Celebrates Sustainability Award Win

Blakedown Landscapes is delighted to announce that the Queen Elizabeth II Garden in The Regent’s Park has won the Commercial Build Project over £500k category at the Pro Landscaper Sustainability & Biodiversity Awards 2026, held at FutureScape on 13 October.

Delivered by Blakedown Landscapes for our client, The Royal Parks, and designed by HTA Design, the two-acre garden commemorates the life and legacy of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Sustainability was central to its design and construction, with an emphasis on material reuse, resource efficiency and biodiversity.

The project has achieved significant environmental outcomes, including 184% Biodiversity Net Gain, an 80% reduction in embodied carbon associated with imported soils, and 99.98% of construction waste diverted from landfill. The garden has also achieved BREEAM Infrastructure Excellent certification.

A key element of the construction was the reuse of crushed concrete from the former nursery buildings to create a low-fertility growing medium, reducing the need for imported materials. Other reclaimed materials were incorporated throughout the garden, demonstrating how circular economy principles can be applied to landscape construction.

The award recognises the collaboration, technical expertise and commitment of the entire project team in delivering a public garden with sustainability and biodiversity at its heart.

Congratulations to The Royal Parks, HTA Design, the wider project team and everyone at Blakedown involved in this achievement.
